Frequently asked questions

  • What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is issued by a duly authorised or sworn translator and bears a certification statement, stamp and signature. The receiving authority, court, notary or other requesting body decides whether it is required and accepted in each individual case.

  • Which languages can I enquire about?

Tell us the source language, target language and intended use. We will then check whether the requested language combination can be covered directly or through the specialist network.

  • How can I get a quote for my document?

Send us the key details about the document, language combination and intended purpose. Once we have reviewed the actual documents, you will receive a personal response outlining the price and turnaround time.

  • Why does the website not list fixed prices?

The price and turnaround time depend on the language, length, document type, certification and intended use. We therefore review your enquiry first and then send you a specific quotation.

  • Do I need an apostille for my translation?

An apostille confirms the authenticity of a public document for use abroad. Whether it is needed before or after translation depends on the destination country and the receiving body. It is best to ask that body in advance; we can then help you identify the appropriate requirements for the document and translation.

  • Can I have a certified translation of a power of attorney?

Yes, powers of attorney are a common type of enquiry. Important details include the intended use, destination country or receiving authority, language combination, and whether a signature, notarisation or apostille is required.

  • Is a photo of my document sufficient for an enquiry?

For an initial assessment, a clear, sharp photo or PDF showing the entire document is usually sufficient. We will then tell you whether the original is also required to prepare or certify the translation.

  • Do you also interpret at authorities, courts, notaries or medical appointments?

You can enquire about these appointments. Please provide the location, date, time, duration, language combination and purpose. We will then check availability and requirements and explain the basis for the charges.

  • Can I still enquire if my language is not listed?

Yes. The website lists the languages for which services are documented and expressly welcomes enquiries about other language combinations. The document, source and target languages, subject area and intended use are the deciding factors.

  • Does my foreign driving licence need to be translated for conversion?

The relevant driving-licence authority decides this on a case-by-case basis. A translation is often required if the licence was not issued in German or English. Send us photos of the front and back and tell us the issuing country, and we will review what is needed.

  • Which documents do I need translated for naturalisation?

For naturalisation procedures, foreign civil-status documents are usually required in the original together with a certified German translation, sometimes with an apostille or legalisation. The relevant naturalisation authority determines which documents are required in each case.

  • Is an interpreter required for a marriage ceremony if someone does not speak German?

Yes. Under the German Civil Status Regulation, an interpreter must be used if a participant does not understand German sufficiently and the registry office cannot provide the relevant foreign language itself. We will coordinate the appointment and language combination with you in advance.
